River Valley is flooding again! 3/12/2010 2:56:41 PM
Today is day 71 of year six on my eagle documentary. With the heavy snow melt and rains this week we are seeing flooding again.
At one spot, a Tonka Truck toy sized beaver stared back at me from the flooded embankment. He didn't seem to want to dive into the rapid current, and I wondered if his lodge was underwater?
The Whitewater River has flooded all the back sloughs, and I was amazed to find a heavy concentration of wildlife all gathered in a dryer spot.
I found the red tail hawk pair together on a dead tree, a flock of blue jays, a dozen geese testing the rising water, two sandhill cranes, a dozen red winged blackbirds, two eagles on their nests both with mates nearby.
If the water continues to rise I believe that by tomorrow the chances for landing a good sized trout will be possible simply by dipping your hand into the road.
I found the immature eagle with the heart-shaped symbol over his left eye. I do believe it is "Freedom or Soar" one of the twins from nest 6, their little one from two years ago.
I saw her flying with her mother earlier in the day.
The gravel road was full of pot holes. It was both slick and sticky today. I felt like I was driving on creamy peanut butter but every once in awhile I hit a nut.
