Traveling has always been a great joy to me. My wife and I travel quite a bit. Up and down Florida, back and forth to Chicago and quite a bit to Atlanta. But there is one place we travel to every year and find great comfort in the pace of life, Ya Mon! By now some of you have figured out where we have been of late. You are right!, we just returned from Jamaica. We go there at least twice a year for a couple of weeks and some times for several months. The expression that you will hear maybe a hundred times a day is "Ya mon!", to make a point or to give support or assurance to someone you are speaking to. The interesting thing is; both men and women use the expression when speaking to each other. It has always humored me to hear a woman say to another woman "Ya Mon." But thats the unique thing about cultures. Some things are just a part of a particular culture and don't necessarily follow the grammatical patterns that we are accustomed to, or the composition of sentence structure that we would give our stamp of approval to. I must say that the simplicity of life and the down to earth naturalness of the people is a wonderful change of pace. If you ever have an opportunity to visit Jamaica, I can guarantee you will have an unforgettable time.
