California, the Higgs Boson Particle, and God 7/24/2012 2:57:44 PM
I recently returned from a trip to California. I attended a wedding in Petaluma, saw friends in San Francisco and San Clemente, and did a book event at the Awakenings Metaphysical Bookstore in Laguna Hills. At the book signing, there were fifteen people and before I even started, I was asked a question about the Higgs boson particle. I know that I had seen the term in my reading but no matter how much I searched my memory bank, I could not for the life of me remember where. I tried to fudge my way through the question which is something you should never do, because you sound worse when you do this. I should have asked, “What’s the Higgs boson?” Next time I shall answer honestly. No excuses but I think I was caught off guard and surprised by not knowing the very first question asked of me.
When I returned to Florida after one of those exhausting flight trips that also did not go quite right, I sat down at my computer. And I read the amazing story that scientists at the CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland had just possibly found the elusive Higgs boson and its associated Higgs field that Peter Higgs and five other scientists proposed in 1964. In 1993, physicist Leon Lederman published his book, The God Particle, in reference to the boson which is central to our understanding of the creation of our world. My immediate thought got me excited. Marcia and I just published Putting God Into Einstein’s Equations: Energy of the Soul where we speak about God’s Field occupying much of space. Could the Higgs field and the God Field be one and the same?
In August, you will be receiving a Newsletter where we wrote about combining science and spirituality to ask and answer this very question of sameness. What I find fascinating is that the Higgs field is unseen and permeates much of three-dimensional space. The same is true for God’s energy particles. They too have never been detected. Marcia, Tom Spradley, my former PhD student and now cherished friend, and I recently published an article that appeared in The Weissman Report. Our wonderful web person, Richelle Andersen, who is our anchor has the article up on our website. We thought it would be a good idea also to place it in a future Newsletter because it was a rare opportunity to blend science, the Divine soul, and God.
