Blogs by David Ravenwood Where are the Leaders who know how to Lead? 2/9/2013 12:36:58 PMWe know all about abuse of power on a grand scale: Hitler, Nixon, Osama Bin Laden. But what about all those smaller, every day misuses of authority we endure? Too many managers, teachers, group leaders, etc. take care of themselves first. They don't think about or don't care about how their troops will be affected by their decisions. Most of the time it involves something small. We say it doesn't matter. But a lifetime of little wrongdoings add up. I once worked for an elementary school principal who said he would always get my side of the story if anyone at school ever told him bad things about me. Then on four separate occasions, he had his snitch run to him with something they heard me say. The first three times the snitch told what I had said completely out of context. The fourth time it was an outright lie. But each time the principal swallowed the snitch's story hook line and sinker--and blamed me accordingly. After that last time, I went to the principal, reminded him of his promise to me, and demanded that it stop. If it hadn't I would have filed a grivance against him. This guy also played favorites, something else people in charge shouldn't do.
