Peace and Quiet? 2/18/2013 8:17:15 PM
Ahh! The peace and quiet of country life. The sounds of nature and easy lifestyle. Getting back to the basics of life as we get older, seemed the right thing to do. Changing the lifestyle to better our health was the main focus for moving to the country. I wanted to grow my own food and live off the land. We have improved much of our health in the last six years by making the decision to give up fast food and other bad habits that packed on the pounds around our waist. We led a very sedentary life. My husband and I both had recliners and dared anyone else to sit in them. We would climb in our special chair, order pizza and try to watch a movie on television. Our house stood on a corner lot three blocks from the mall and five minutes from several fast food eateries. We had it made! Couldn't move much, but we had it made. The worst part of the whole thing being the fact that we had a hard time backing out of our driveway. There were days the traffic was so heavy we would have to wait fifteen minutes for traffic to clear. The other factor was the noise of the traffic which not only made it hard to navigate but also hard to sleep late and also disrupted our favorite shows.
It was time for a change. After much conversation we loaded up the truck and moved to the country where there may be five cars pass the house in one day. How nice it was to have such quietness. We were inspired to change our eating habits and began to lead a much healthier life. The first thing we did was put in a huge garden from which we ate all that grew. Of course paying $4.00 for gas to drive to town to pick up pizza got kind of expensive. So it was out of necessity that we ate healthy.
But the real difference that made it all worthwhile was the peace and quiet from the mall traffic. There was none. How wonderful!
Then one day while I was out on the back porch taking care of my new baby chicks for which I would have my own healthy eggs, the house suddenly became noisy once again. I couldn't believe it! My peace was shattered! I followed the sound and as I entered the living room, there I found my husband, sitting in his new recliner, watching none other than NASCAR! After much yelling and screaming, he muted the t.v. and looked at me as he said these words..."What did you say, I didn't hear you, NASCAR is on!
