Our blog is reviewing the Second Expedition of the “Yah and the Space Cadets” Series; the blog is published weekly and made up of three brief sections: a comment, a summary and an excerpt. The comment will clarify concepts; for example, the weeks in Zorec (main planet and capital of the Empire) have ten days; a month has three weeks, etc. We welcome your comments and sincerely hope you enjoy our blog. Comment: The Second Expedition is undertaken to determine the conditions of planet AquaSoil and, if possible, to begin preparations for the establishment of a new civilization. However, towards the end of The First Expedition (see our previous blogs), several enemy missiles were destroyed by Commander d’Nor; additionally, a handful of expensive artifacts were blown up by Space Cadet Ada who is now being sued along with the commander.
Summary of Chapter 1 – Hearing and Gardens
The story continues with the trial of Ada and d’Nor for having destroyed property of both, the Tamorts and the Herptiles. The Tamorts demand a total compensation for the destroyed missiles of Gc 314,576,870 (Gold Comets), Gc 2,600,000 for 52 of their warriors and Gc 425,353 for a scientific tool. The Herptiles claim payment for their grenades, which were disguised as three-eyed turtles. The counsel for the Empire refuses to pay any type of compensation. During a recess, some cadets visit the Imperial Zoological and Botanical Gardens. Ada is found guilty of firing preemptively and sentenced to ten full weeks on top of a platform (later, the sentence is reduced to only two weeks). This meant that Ada would be freed two days after the departure of the second expedition, something that is terribly inconvenient for the Empire’s plans.
Excerpt: “Your armor and other personal effects shall be returned to you on the day we free you,” said a huge guard. “Come along, we are taking you by Flydron.”
After arriving, Ada was given a couple of boxes which contained the necessary food items, some drinks, including nectar but no Cosmic Drinks, to survive the sentenced time. She then saw how the Flydron, a powerful aircraft capable of vertical and horizontal flight, similar to a dragonfly, flew away. Ada realized that there were not many comforts in that place. She proceeded to clean the platform while there was sufficient light. Taking advantage of the ringbolts and pieces of rope on the platform, she tied down the boxes and sat at the center of it. Soon the night arrived, and with it, the wind picked up. The sky was splendid and the solitude immense. She tied one ankle to the platform, just in case a powerful rush of wind would make her slide away from the center. She decided to lay flat on her back and contemplate the stars and moons. Suddenly, she heard the distinct voice of Alph.

Luz Primera – La Segunda Expedición
Comentario: La Segunda Expedición se lleva a cabo con el fin de determinar las condiciones del planeta AcuaTerra y, si es posible, dar comienzo a los preparativos para el establecimiento de una nueva civilización. Sin embargo, hacia el final de La Primera Expedición (vea nuestros blogs anteriores), varios misiles enemigos fueron destruidos por la comandante d’Nor; además, un puñado de artefactos caros fueron destrozados por la cadete del espacio Ada, quien, junto con la comandante, está siendo demandada.
Resumen del Capítulo 1 – Audiencia y Jardines
El relato continúa con el juicio de Ada y de d’Nor por haber destruido armas pertenecientes a los Tamorts y a los Herptiles. Los Tamort exigen una compensación total de Co 314,576,870 (Cometas Oro), Co 2,600,000 por 52 de sus guerreros y Co 425,353 por una herramienta científica. Los Herptiles demandan pago por sus granadas, mismas que estaban disfrazadas de tortugas de tres ojos. El abogado del Imperio se rehúsa a pagar cualquier tipo de compensación. Durante un receso, algunos cadetes visitan los Jardines Imperiales de Zoología y Botánica. A Ada la declaran culpable por haber disparado en forma anticipada y recibe una sentencia de diez semanas completas encima de una plataforma (más tarde, la sentencia se reduce a sólo dos semanas). Esto significa que Ada quedará libre dos días después de iniciada la segunda expedición, algo que resulta muy inconveniente para los planes del Imperio.
Extracto: «Su armadura y sus bienes personales se le devolverán el día en que la pongamos en libertad», dijo un guardia enorme. «Acompáñenos, la llevaremos en libéptero».
Después de llegar, le dieron un par de cajas a Ada; éstas contenían los artículos comestibles necesarios, algunas bebidas, incluyendo néctar, pero no la Bebida Cósmica, para que sobreviviera el tiempo de su condena. Entonces, ella vio como el libéptero, una potente nave de vuelo vertical y horizontal semejante a una libélula, se alejaba. Ada se percató de que no había muchas comodidades en el lugar. Procedió a limpiar la plataforma aprovechando lo que quedaba de luz. Valiéndose de las armellas y cuerdas que había en la plataforma, amarró las cajas y se sentó en el centro de la misma. Al poco, llegó la noche, y con ella, se alzó el viento. El cielo era espléndido y la soledad inmensa. Se ató un tobillo a la plataforma por si llegase una fuerte brisa que la deslizara alejándola del centro. Decidió yacer de espaldas y contemplar las estrellas y las lunas. De pronto, escuchó la voz inconfundible de Alf.
