This is our review of the Third Chapter of “First Light / The Second Expedition” in the “Yah and the Space Cadets” series. This blog is published weekly in English and Spanish and is made up of three brief sections: a comment, a summary and an excerpt. The comment section also serves as a sort of glossary where we clarify some concepts; for example, in Zorec (main planet and capital of the Empire) the weeks have ten days; a month has three weeks, etc. We welcome your input and sincerely hope you enjoy our blog. Comment: Evil sprites are creatures that breathe fire through their mouths and noses. Their outer garment resembles a dark smoky cloud that envelops them completely. They have tails.
Summary of Chapter 3 – Star of Distinction
The cadets are thrilled after learning that they no longer need to make difficult calculations. Due to the absence of Ada during the scheduled ceremonies, Gab and Alph postponed receiving their Star of Distinction. The cadets, who were to be named Knights and Dames of the court of Annur in the second ceremony, also postponed it. The Second Expedition begins. Ada and the cadets can see Ada’s robone from the spaceship and they noticed a scratch around her right elbow. The cadets had to check their spacecraft. Later, they watched the release of Ada’s robone. Annur welcomes the robone to his castle. The following day the robone leaves in Ada’s spaceship to catch up with the Audacious. To deactivate the robone, professor Kuln takes out the energy tubes from it. The robots pack the robone in two special boxes. An evil sprite had managed to place a tracking device in the robone. Their first excursion is to planet Amb-40. They went there to visit a cave.
Excerpt: “Technically, it is an artifact, a robot, so I prefer to refer to it as IT,” emphasized d’Nor. While she was saying these words, everyone could now see Ada’s robone on the main monitor. It was perched in the middle of the punishing platform, looking serene.
“What an idiotic way of punishing someone,” said Ada, who then noticed that there was dirt and a small scratch on the right elbow of the robone’s uniform. “Something happened to her,” said Ada.
“She will tell us when she gets here,” said Yah. “She was probably attacked by some birds.”
“Can she become invisible at will, as we can?” asked Iris.
“I’m afraid not,” interrupted Professor Kuln. “There are certain attributes we do not incorporate into robones. We can turn them invisible when they are with us, but they cannot do it on their own; remember that we want to be able to find them.”
“What about thunder balls, spears and arrows; can she make some of those?” asked Joe.
“Of course not,” answered Kuln. “There are two main reasons for this. Number one, we do not want to be attacked by robones if something goes wrong, and number two, we do not want our enemies to discover all our secrets. Nobody else knows how to make them.”

Esta es nuestra reseña del Tercer Capítulo de «Luz Primera / La Segunda Expedición» de la serie de «Yah y los Cadetes del Espacio». Este blog se publica semanalmente en inglés y español y tiene una o más ilustraciones y tres secciones breves: un comentario, un resumen y un extracto. La sección del comentario sirve también como una especie de glosario donde aclaramos algunos conceptos; por ejemplo, en Zorec (el planeta principal y la capital del Imperio) las semanas tienen diez días; un mes tiene tres semanas, etc. Agradecemos sus comentarios y sinceramente esperamos que disfruten de este blog. Luz Primera – La Segunda Expedición
Comentario: Los espectros malignos son criaturas que arrojan fuego por la boca y la nariz. Su prenda de vestir exterior se asemeja a una nube de humo oscuro que los rodea por completo. Tienen cola.
Resumen del Capítulo 3 – La Estrella al Mérito
Los cadetes quedan encantados al saber que ya no necesitan realizar cálculos difíciles. Debido a la ausencia de Ada durante las ceremonias programadas, Gab y Alf posponen la recepción de la Estrella al Mérito. Los cadetes, a quienes se les nombraría caballeros y damas de la corte de Annur en la segunda ceremonia, también la posponen. Comienza la Segunda Expedición. Ada y los cadetes pueden ver al robón de Ada desde la nave espacial y se percatan de un rasguño alrededor de su codo derecho. Los cadetes tienen que revisar sus naves espaciales. Después, ven la liberación del robón de Ada. Annur recibe al robón en su castillo. Al día siguiente, el robón sale en la nave espacial de Ada con el fin de alcanzar a la Audaz. Para desactivar al robón, el profesor Kuln le saca los tubos de energía. Los robots empacan al robón en dos cajas especiales. Un espectro maligno logró colocar un dispositivo de rastreo en el robón. La primera excursión es al planeta Amb-40. Van allí a visitar una caverna.
Extracto: «Técnicamente, se trata de un artefacto, un robot, de manera que prefiero referirme a eso como un ‘LO’» enfatizó d’Nor. Mientras la comandante decía esto, todos pudieron ver al robón de Ada en el monitor principal. Estaba posado a la mitad de la plataforma de castigo, con una apariencia serena.
«Qué manera más idiota de castigar a alguien», dijo Ada, quien entonces se dio cuenta de que había mugre y un pequeño rasgón en el codo derecho del uniforme del robón. «Algo le pasó a ella», dijo Ada.
«Ella nos lo dirá cuando llegue», dijo Yah. «Probablemente la atacaron algunas aves».
«¿Se puede volver invisible a voluntad, como nosotros?» preguntó Iris.
«Me temo que no», interrumpió el profesor Kuln. «Hay algunos atributos que no incorporamos en los robones. Los podemos volver invisibles cuando están con nosotros, pero ellos no lo pueden hacer cuando están solos; recuerden que queremos hallarlos cuando sea necesario».
«¿Y respecto a las pelotas, lanzas y saetas tormentosas; las puede hacer?» preguntó Joe.
«Desde luego que no», contestó Kuln. «Hay dos razones principales para esto. Número uno, no queremos que los robones nos ataquen si algo funciona mal, y número dos, no queremos que nuestros enemigos descubran todos nuestros secretos. Nadie sabe cómo fabricarlos».
