Excerpt from the story.
“I was learning how to swim,” says Fred in a small voice.
“Hock mud is a very bad place to try to swim, I think,” replies Hodges, who is wondering how a chicken can swim.
“Bad place, I KNOW! It was like the mud was trying to eat me,” trembles Fred, “Why do you call it hock mud?”
Hodges thinks for a moment and replies, “That’s what my Papa called it. When you step in it, you sink all the way up to your hock.” Hodges points to his thigh. “Do your parents know you were off ‘swimming’?”
