A touch of danger, a pinch of intrigue, and a sprinkling of magic dust make up this story of Zachary Ashton, a children's author who learns that one of his own characters from out of his books wants to kill him--the Sandman.

The story begins when Lars Jamison loses his job, and is in a state of depression when he walks out into a busy street and gets hit. When he wakes up he finds himself the prisoner of Zhang, a dark, evil, wispy character who is the ruler of a fantasy kingdom. It just so happens that Zhang’s sandman died, and he needs someone to replace him.

Lars serves Zhang for six years as his Sandman before Zhang gives him the job of henchman to kill Ashton, the children's author, who is gaining fame by twisting innocent children's mands into thinking that good overcomes evil in every instance. Lars, having no choice but to obey, enters the writer's world, and begins his plan when something unexpected happens.

He falls in love.

Because Lars disobeys Zhang, he is left powerless, and has no choice but to tell Ashton the truth. Having found each other, they work together, enlisting a local witch, Skylla, to help them. At the expense of her own life, she defeats Zhang, and as a reward, she is given eternal life, and her own kingdom to rule.

The two men, who fell in love among the danger and intrigue in this dark, twisted tale, lives happily ever after--as the fairytales still say.
