So many powers that the cadets need to practice them? // ¿Tantos poderes que los cadetes necesitan practicarlos? // Which team will win? // ¿Cuál equipo ganará? This is a review of the Seventh Chapter of “First Light / The Second Expedition” in the “Yah and the Space Cadets” series. This blog is published weekly in English and Spanish and is made up of three brief sections: a comment/glossary, a summary and an excerpt. We welcome your input and sincerely hope you enjoy our blog. Yah and the Space Cadets / First Light / The Second Expedition
Comment: The system used by the cadets and driven by a super powerful computer was purposely made to be rather annoying. The idea was to help distract the cadets on their long space travels. However, for Ada and a few others the system is downright obnoxious. Her interactions with the system are becoming legendary.
Summary of Chapter 7 – First Power-Contest
The new idea has to do with boats and safety; therefore, the teams begin to develop ways to improve the safety of seafaring vessels. While visiting planet Resijus, the cadets acquired three new powers. They want to practice them and Professor Kuln calls for the First Power-Contest to take place that same evening. The four presentations of their powers are incredibly amusing and fun. From geysers to flames, from a horrible witch to giants and hawks, the cadets used many of their powers. Later, the cadets ask help from the system to prepare their ideas on boat safety.
Excerpt: “Professor,” exclaimed Ada. “When we were in planet Resijus, we acquired three new powers. We now can transform ourselves into very old, feeble looking people, we can wither plants and even structures at will and we can make our flesh produce pustules, granules, ugly pimples, warts and other skin conditions that give the impression of being a contagious disease. Well, if you add these new powers to the ones we already have; keeping in mind that we forgot to use our powers in one occasion, my teammates and I feel we should practice all our powers. We should hold a competition to determine who can come up with the best way of deceiving the enemy.”
“Ada, that sounds like a lot of fun” said professor Kuln with great enthusiasm. “What do you think?” he asked the rest of the cadets.
Since there are few things to do in space, the cadets decided to hold several contests to pass the time; in addition, of course, to the occasional excursion and the rest of the games in the Audacious.

Esta es una reseña del Séptimo Capítulo de «Luz Primera / La Segunda Expedición» de la serie «Yah y los Cadetes del Espacio». Este blog se publica semanalmente en inglés y español y consta de tres secciones breves: un comentario/glosario, un resumen y un extracto. Yah y los Cadetes del Espacio / Luz Primera / La Segunda Expedición
Comentario: El sistema que usan los cadetes, impulsado por una potente súper computadora, fue hecho adrede con un carácter fastidioso. La idea era la de ayudar a distraer a los cadetes en sus largos viajes espaciales. Sin embargo, para Ada y otros más, el sistema es categóricamente insoportable. Sus interactuaciones con el sistema tienen vislumbres de leyenda.
Resumen del Capítulo 7 – Primer Concurso de Poderes
La nueva idea tiene que ver con barcos y seguridad; por lo tanto, los equipos comienzan a desarrollar formas de mejorar la seguridad de las naves marítimas. Cuando visitaron el planeta Resijus, los cadetes adquirieron tres. Ellos quieren practicarlos y el profesor Kuln convoca el Primer Concurso de Poderes que se llevará a cabo esa misma noche. Las cuatro presentaciones de los poderes son increíblemente entretenidas y divertidas. Desde géiseres hasta llamas, desde una bruja horrible hasta gigantes y halcones, los cadetes usaron muchos de sus poderes. Más adelante los cadetes solicitan la ayuda del sistema en la preparación de sus ideas sobre la seguridad de los buques.
Extracto: «Profesor», exclamó Ada. «Cuando estuvimos en el planeta Resijus, adquirimos tres nuevos poderes. Ahora nos podemos transformar en personas de apariencia muy vieja y endeble, podemos marchitar plantas y hasta estructuras a voluntad y podemos hacer que nuestra piel produzca pústulas, granos, barros horribles, verrugas y otros padecimientos cutáneos que dan la impresión de ser una enfermedad contagiosa. Bien, si añadimos estos nuevos poderes a los que ya tenemos; sin olvidar que en una ocasión nos olvidamos de usarlos, mis compañeros de equipo y yo creemos que debemos de practicar todos nuestros poderes; que debemos llevar a cabo una competencia para ver quién puede engañar mejor al enemigo».
«Ada, suena como algo divertidísimo», dijo el profesor Kuln con gran entusiasmo. «¿Qué les parece?» les preguntó a los otros cadetes.
Dado que hay muy pocas cosas que hacer en el espacio, los cadetes decidieron llevar a cabo varios concursos para pasar el tiempo; además de una que otra excursión esporádica, desde luego, y del resto de los juegos en la Audaz.
