Yah and the Space Cadets / First Light / The Second Expedition
Comment: “Neugredeeps” is a universal salutation common in deep space. It means “Neutral Greetings in Deep Space” and it is used to indicate total neutrality with respect to the other party. In deep space (in our books, the space between galaxies, not between stars), one tries to be civil even with the enemy, after all, they are just warriors fighting on the other side. There is nothing personal in war or conflicts.
Summary of Chapter 9 – A Valve for 60 Steaks
On their way back to the Audacious from planet Ircela, while flying on a cruiser, the cadets ran into a group of Herptiles who wanted to talk to them. The group, composed of five warriors, two companions and one messenger (Erlakee), was invited to board the cruiser. This messenger was a strange woman, a colonel, who gave the expeditionary force sixty steaks, two knives (both with tracking devises) and a lovely pin which ended up in the hands of Ada. The cadets had to write a report on this. After consulting the system about Erlakee’s true identity, the cadets continued working on their idea about boat safety.
Excerpt: “They said they belonged to the… Herptilian Civilization…”
Yah was interrupted by d’Nor who, raising her voice, asked, “Members of the Herptilian Civilization requested YOUR help?!”
“Well, they said one of their spaceships was practically stranded due to a faulty valve. This woman, Erlakee, asked for one valve and I decided to give it to them, so they could continue on their way,” answered Yah.
“Tell me why one of our valves would fit their spaceships,” persisted d’Nor.
“That’s what I said too, but she informed me that they had stolen our specifications and that the valve would fit,” answered Yah.
“My dear Yah,” continued d’Nor with a softer tone, “they have stolen a valve from you. The Herptiles ‘pretended’ to be stranded to get you to hand over an incredible piece of engineering without having to fire a single shot for it. Those valves cost thousands of Gold Comets and all you’ve got for the valve is a couple of fake knives, sixty steaks, and a pin which may be the only thing of real value you got from this woman; what was her name?”
“Erlakee,” answered Yah.

Esta es una reseña del Noveno Capítulo de «Luz Primera / La Segunda Expedición» de la serie «Yah y los Cadetes del Espacio». Este blog se publica semanalmente en inglés y español y consta de tres secciones breves: un comentario/glosario, un resumen y un extracto. Yah y los Cadetes del Espacio / Luz Primera / La Segunda Expedición
Comentario: «Salneuprócial» es un saludo universal común en el espacio profundo. Significa «Saludos Neutrales en la Profundidad Espacial» y se usa para indicar una total neutralidad respecto a la otra parte. En el espacio profundo (en nuestros libros, el espacio entre las galaxias, no entre las estrellas), uno trata de ser cortés aún con los enemigos, después de todo, ellos son sólo guerreros que luchan en el otro bando. No hay nada personal en la guerra ni en los conflictos.
Resumen del Capítulo 9 – Una Válvula a Cambio de 60 Filetes
Regresando a la Audaz desde el planeta Ircela, mientras volaban en un crucero espacial, los cadetes se tropezaron con un grupo de Herptiles que querían hablar con ellos. El grupo, compuesto de cinco guerreros, dos acompañantes y una mensajera (Erlakee), fue invitado a subir al crucero. Esta mensajera era un mujer extraña, una coronel, quien le dio a la fuerza expedicionaria sesenta filetes, dos cuchillos (ambos con dispositivos de rastreo) y un bello broche que terminó en manos de Ada. Los cadetes tuvieron que escribir un reporte sobre esto. Después de consultar al sistema acerca de la verdadera identidad de Erlakee, continuaron trabajando en su idea de la seguridad y los buques.
Extracto: «Dijeron que pertenecían a la… civilización Herptiliana…»
D’Nor interrumpió a Yah y, alzando la voz, le preguntó: «¡¿Miembros de la civilización Herptiliana solicitaron TU ayuda?!»
«Bueno, dijeron que una de sus naves espaciales estaba prácticamente varada debido a que una válvula estaba fallando. Esta mujer, Erlakee, nos pidió una válvula y yo decidí dársela, para que pudieran continuar su travesía», contestó Yah.
«Dime por qué le quedan a sus naves espaciales una de nuestras válvulas», persistió d’Nor.
«Eso fue lo que yo también dije, pero ella me informó que se habían robado nuestras especificaciones y que la válvula quedaría bien», contestó Yah.
«Mi querido Yah», continuó d’Nor con un tono más leve, «te robaron una válvula. Los Herptiles ‘pretendieron’ estar varados para que tú les dieras una pieza de ingeniería extraordinaria sin tener que disparar un solo cartucho. Esas válvulas cuestan miles de cometas oro y todo lo que te dieron a cambio fue un par de cuchillos falsos, sesenta tajadas de carne, y un broche que a lo mejor es lo único valioso que te dio esa mujer; ¿cómo se llamaba?»
«Erlakee», contestó Yah.
