Summary of Chapter 13 – Plomday
Yah confesses to Commander d’Nor of their cheating in the making of a safer fishing boat and apologizes to her. The boat does win the contest but the team had already been disqualified. Later, all the cadets decide to advance in time one month by levitating in circles for one day. They will accomplish this by dividing the day into three 8-hour stages.
Excerpt: “Can you show us the projected paths of the bombs that are going to be thrown at AquaSoil in order to dislodge it from its current path and send it towards the nearest star?” [Ada asked.]
“Yes,” answered the system.
“Well, please do it,” typed Ada quickly.
“I am gathering all the information,” said the system. “You need to be patient. This is not a run-of-the-mill operation, you know.”
“Oh, for the darkest cosmic dust,” said Ada addressing Yah and Sid. She then typed, “Fine; take your time.”
“I am going to take the necessary time, and only the necessary time. It isn’t as if I wanted to slow down on purpose. This is a highly complicated process. Be patient,” typed the system back.
“I said ‘fine,’ didn’t I?” typed Ada.
“Yes, but you didn’t mean it,” answered the system.
“When did you learn to detect people’s feelings?” asked Ada.
“Since the last upgrade; my new version contains advanced linguistic and text analysis tools to help me determine, by your answers, if you are happy, sad, bored, flabbergasted, indifferent, upset, troubled, or simply… CON-FUSED,” answered the system.
“Do you have the paths available?” asked Ada, completely ignoring the previous answer.
“Yes,” said the system.

Resumen del Capítulo 13 – Plómides
Yah le confiesa a la comandante d’Nor haber hecho trampa en la elaboración de un bote pesquero más seguro y le pide disculpas. El bote gana el concurso pero el equipo ya había sido descalificado. Más tarde, todos los cadetes deciden avanzar en el tiempo un mes levitando en círculos durante un día. Lo logran dividiendo el día en tres etapas de ocho horas cada una.
Extracto: «¿Nos puedes mostrar los senderos proyectados para la bombas que se van a lanzar contra AcuaTerra con el fin de sacarlo de su sendero actual y enviarlo hacia la estrella más cercana?» [Preguntó Ada.]
«Sí», contestó el sistema.
«Bueno, por favor hazlo», tecleó Ada rápidamente.
«Estoy reuniendo toda la información», dijo el sistema. «Tienes que tener paciencia. Esta no es una operación común y corriente, sabes».
«Ay, por el polvo cósmico más oscuro», dijo Ada dirigiéndose a Yah y a Sid. Entonces, tecleó: «Bien, tárdate lo que quieras».
«Me voy a tardar el tiempo necesario, y únicamente el tiempo necesario. No es como si quisiera irme despacio adrede. Este es un proceso sumamente complicado. Ten paciencia», tecleó el sistema a su vez.
«Dije ‘bien’, ¿no es cierto?» tecleó Ada.
«Sí, pero no fue sincero», contestó el sistema.
«¿Cuándo aprendiste a detectar los sentimientos de las personas?» preguntó Ada.
«Desde la última actualización; mi nueva versión contiene herramientas avanzadas de análisis lingüísticos y de texto para ayudarme a determinar, según tus respuestas, si estás contenta, triste, aburrida, estupefacta, indiferente, molesta, preocupada, o simplemente… CON-FUN-DI-DA», contestó el sistema.
«¿Tienes los senderos disponibles?» preguntó Ada, ignorando completamente la respuesta anterior.
«Sí», dijo el sistema.
