2nd Expedition: Fifteenth Bilingual Blog (English-Spanish) 9/3/2013 7:59:05 AM
The adventure continues... What can the symbol of a primitive green man holding a spear mean inside a well? The cadets want to prepare a formula with a strange and poisonous mollusk to obtain a certain ability to glow in the dark. They agree to do it but after making the concoction, they had to ask for volunteers! This is a review of the Fifteenth Chapter of “First Light / The Second Expedition” in the “Yah and the Space Cadets” series. This blog is published weekly in English and Spanish and is made up of three brief sections: a comment/glossary, a summary and an excerpt. We welcome your input and sincerely hope you enjoy our blog. Summary of Chapter 15 – First, Look for the Diamonds!
The cadets find three stories in the House of Nostcal and a book of formulas with which they discover a new power, bioluminescence. This allows them to turn their fists into flashlights! The formula to make the power includes rare circular clams plus plants and herbs found on planet Desnyt. They again see a group of spaceships from the Tamorts passing nearby. They arrive at GabAlph and decide to levitate and to look for the diamonds first.
Excerpt: The cadets followed Joe, Tem and Ray as they searched for the birds, and the vertical shadows.
“There’s the tower where we saw the stone bird,” said Ada. “The entrance has to be around here someplace.”
“There’s the entrance to the maze and here’s the 3D map of the maze, in case we need it,” said Yah.
“Yah,” said Joe, “we are not going through the maze this time; we’ll fly until we see the truncated pyramid, the plaza or the pillars. They have to be nearby.”
“Let’s do it, Joe,” agreed Yah.
“There’s the truncated pyramid,” screamed Iris. “Let’s land there.”
The cadets gathered at the top of the pyramid and decided to take a break and eat before continuing with their exploration. While they were enjoying their food bars, they discussed the possibilities. Should they go to the brook and pit first, and then enter the pyramid, or vice versa?
“I’d like to know if I’m rich first because that would make me feel much more enthusiastic about visiting the burial chamber of the Great Ation,” said Brin.
“I agree with you, but wouldn’t that look bad in our record?” asked Sid.
“On the other hand, suppose that we go looking for the diamonds and find nothing; then, what?” asked Yah. “How are we going to feel if someone has moved the treasure from the brook and hidden it somewhere else? Most probably, disappointed; and that is not the mood to be in when investigating the burial chamber,” admonished Yah.
“Well, I’d take my chances with my mood swings. Let’s prepare a happy thunder ball to help us overcome our disappointment in case we find nothing. Right now I do not feel like entering this pyramid,” said Mona.
Everyone laughed at what Mona said and…, yes, they agreed with her. The thing to do first was to look for the diamonds!

¿Qué puede significar el símbolo de un hombre primitivo de color verde sosteniendo una lanza en el interior de un pozo? Resumen del Capítulo 15 – Primero, ¡a Buscar los Diamantes!
Los cadetes hallan tres pisos en la casa de Nostcal y un libro de fórmulas con el que descubren un nuevo poder, bioluminiscencia. ¡Esto les permite transformar sus puños en lámparas! La fórmula para crear el poder incluye almejas circulares raras, además de plantas y hierbas que se dan en el planeta Desnyt. Nuevamente, ven a un grupo de naves espaciales de los Tamort pasar por las cercanías. Arriban a GabAlf y deciden levitar e ir en busca de los diamantes primero.
Extracto: Los cadetes siguieron a Joe, a Tem y a Ray mientras buscaban a las aves y a las sombras verticales.
«Allí está la torre donde vimos al ave de piedra», dijo Ada. «La entrada tiene que estar por aquí, en algún lado».
«Allí está la entrada al laberinto y aquí tengo el mapa tridimensional del mismo, en caso de que lo necesitemos», dijo Yah.
«Yah», dijo Joe, «no vamos a pasar por el laberinto esta vez; volaremos hasta que veamos la pirámide truncada, la plaza o los pilares. Tienen que estar cerca de aquí».
«Hagámoslo, Joe», asintió Yah.
«Allí está la pirámide truncada», gritó Iris. «Aterricemos en ella».
Los cadetes se reunieron en la cima de la pirámide y decidieron descansar y comer antes de continuar con su exploración. Mientras disfrutaban de sus barras de comida, discutieron las posibilidades. ¿Deberían ir al arroyuelo y a la fosa primero, y después entrar a la pirámide, o al revés?
«A mí me gustaría saber primero si soy rico, pues eso me daría mucho entusiasmo para visitar la recámara de la sepultura del Gran Atión», dijo Brin.
«Estoy de acuerdo contigo, pero ¿no se mirará mal en nuestro expediente?» preguntó Sid.
«Por otro lado, supongan que vamos a buscar los diamantes y no hallamos nada; ¿entonces qué?» preguntó Yah. «¿Cómo nos vamos a sentir si alguien se llevó el tesoro del arroyuelo y lo escondió en otro lugar? Lo más probable es que nos sintamos decepcionados; y ése no es el humor que hay que tener para investigar la recámara de la sepultura», advirtió Yah.
«Pues yo arriesgaría la volatilidad de mi carácter. Preparemos una bola tormentosa de felicidad para que nos ayude a sobreponernos a nuestra decepción en caso de que no hallemos nada. Además, ahorita, no se me antoja entrar en la pirámide», dijo Mona.
Todos se rieron de lo que había dicho Mona y…, sí, estaban de acuerdo con ella. ¡Lo primero era buscar los diamantes!
