This is a review of Chapter 16: The Tomb, the Cave and the Water of “First Light / The Second Expedition” in the “Yah and the Space Cadets” series. Summary of Chapter 16 – The Tomb, the Cave and the Water
After landing on planet GabAlph, the cadets decide to look for the diamonds before opening the tomb of the Great Ation. They don’t find all the diamonds; they open the burial chamber and later confront the vertical shadows, the birds of stone and the hideous corpses. They then look for the source of the stream. Note: While levitating above the sarcophagus, Yah discovered that while keeping his right arm lit up like a flashlight, he could touch another surface with his left hand and turned that surface completely transparent. The cadets are attacked by birds, shadows and corpses but, when Gab and Alph come out wielding swords of fire, the attackers flee the area. Following their search for the source of the brook, the cadets discovered that the creatures had taken the treasure to a distant mountain with a most unusual entrance. After drinking from the source of the stream, they acquire a new power.
Excerpt: “Yah, the whole cave is moving,” said Ada.
“Yes, it certainly feels like that,” agreed Yah.
“What do you think is making it move, a super-volcano underneath us or a large current of lava, water or something?” asked Sid.
“I don’t know,” answered Yah.
“Gab, Alph, can you help us with this?” asked Yah.
“Well, we can tell you that this type of cavern is extremely rare and that it is in fact moving,” said Gab.
“If you listen closely, you will hear a sound similar to breathing. It seems as if this cavern is part of an animal that is agonizing, near death, and that it is slowly turning into stone,” said Ada.
“That is strange, but I think you are right, Ada” agreed Zaza. “It feels like we are inside the nasal cavity of a large animal and we are witnessing his last breaths.”
“Well, it sure looks like a very long nasal cavity,” commented Brin.
“Touch the walls; you can still sense the softness of the tissues and also the hardness of the layers underneath the surface. It really seems to be a living cave,” said Joe. “Yah, maybe we should hurry up.”
“I don’t think it will wake up now, do you?” asked Yah.
“Who knows? Better safe than sorry, let’s move faster and see where this tunnel leads to,” suggested Iris.
“I agree with Iris,” said Sid. “We didn’t come here to find giant agonizing animals; we are here to find the source of that brook.”

Resumen del Capítulo 16 – La Tumba, la Cueva y el Agua
Después de aterrizar en el planeta GabAlf, los cadetes deciden buscar los diamantes antes de abrir la tumba del Gran Atión. No encuentran todos los diamantes; abren la recámara de la sepultura y más tarde se enfrentan a las sombras verticales, a las aves de piedra y a los cadáveres repugnantes. Después buscan la fuente del riachuelo. Nota: Mientras levitaba encima del sarcófago, Yah descubrió que al mantener su brazo derecho encendido como linterna, podía tocar otra superficie con su mano izquierda y lograr que esa superficie se volviese completamente transparente. A los cadetes los atacan las aves, las sombras y los cadáveres pero, cuando Gab y Alf salen blandiendo espadas de fuego, los atacantes huyen del área. Posteriormente a su búsqueda de la fuente del riachuelo, los cadetes descubren que las criaturas se habían llevado el tesoro a una montaña distante con una entrada muy inusual. Después de beber de la fuente, adquieren un nuevo poder.
Extracto: «Yah, toda la cueva se está moviendo», dijo Ada.
«Sí, definitivamente se siente así», dijo Yah en acuerdo.
«¿Qué crees que la esté moviendo, un súper-volcán debajo de nosotros o una gran corriente de lava, de agua o alguna otra cosa?» Sid preguntó.
«No sé», contestó Yah.
«Gab, Alf, ¿nos pueden ayudar con esto?» preguntó Yah.
«Bueno, te podemos decir que es muy raro este tipo de caverna y que de hecho sí se está moviendo», dijo Gab.
«Si escuchan con atención, oirán un sonido similar a la respiración. Me da la impresión de que la caverna forma parte de un animal agonizante, a un paso de la muerte, y que se está convirtiendo lentamente en piedra», dijo Ada.
«La caverna es muy extraña, y creo que tienes razón, Ada» asintió Zaza. «Siento como si estuviésemos en la cavidad nasal de un animal enorme y que estamos siendo testigos de sus últimos respiros».
«Pues sí parece ser una cavidad nasal sumamente larga», comentó Brin.
«Toquen las paredes; todavía se puede sentir la blandura de los tejidos y la dureza de las capas debajo de la superficie. En verdad parece una cueva viviente», dijo Joe. «Yah, tal vez debamos apresurarnos».
«No creo que despierte en este momento, ¿o sí?» preguntó Yah.
«¿Quién sabe? Por si las dudas, vámonos más rápido y veamos a dónde llega este túnel», sugirió Iris.
«Estoy de acuerdo con Iris», dijo Sid. «No vinimos aquí a buscar animales gigantes agonizando; estamos aquí para hallar la fuente de ese riachuelo».
