Spiritual integration defines the re-association of conceptual relationships and the restoration of a proper balance. The term "integration" has traditionally been used in association with civil rights and public schools. However, the term can also relate to any joining or mixing of items and elements that can go together. For example, the re-establishment of certain concepts, ideas, or viewpoints that exist in areas of faith can also be described as "integrated."
There are conceptual relationships that exist within the Scriptures. Such associations are referred to as “tensions" – think of a rope that needs to be taut in order to function properly. When these “tensions” are disrupted, there are significant consequences. This can be seen when there is an imbalance or disassociation between Word/Spirit, Old Covenant/New Covenant, Church/Kingdom of God, spirituality/practicality, supernatural/natural, sacred/secular, crucifixion/resurrection, creation/fall, gifts/callings, heavenly/earthly, male/female and other crucial relationships.
The segregation of any of the above relationships can serve as the catalyst for some very unproductive behavioral patterns. Just as segregation defines separation and even unequal privileges and rights in the sociopolitical sphere, the same term expresses the havoc that occurs when delicate “tensions” are mot maintained in areas of faith. Thus, spiritual integration defines the re-association of conceptual relationships and the restoration of a proper balance.
