Someone recently asked me who or what inspired me to write my first novel:
My first real memories of reading novels start back when I was in high school. I loved to watch the old horror movies on late night TV such as Dracula and Frankenstein and all the old Vincent Price movies. So, I became inspired to read some of the classic horror authors’ works such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and some of the works by Edgar Allen Poe.
My dad was an avid reader of all kinds of books. As an adult, he got me interested in reading novels he had read by such great authors as Harold Robbins, (My two favorite novels by him are The Carpet Baggers and The Adventurers.) Tom Clancy, (My two favorite by him are The Hunt for Red October and A Clear and Present Danger) and John Grisham (My two favorite by him are A Time to Kill and The Pelican Brief).
As a police officer, I became enthralled by the works by author Joseph Wambaugh, a cop himself (I love The Onion Field, The New Centurions, The Choirboys, The Blue Knight and on and on).
All of the above have had some influence on me as a writer: My dad for his love of reading; all those great authors for their imagination and talent in telling a good story.
Lustful Consequences is my attempt to try and emulate some of my idols in literature.
