Biographical notes of a sailor turned author Alan E. (Al) Strunk grew up on the central coast of California among a diversity of hard working peoples living in awe of nature. As a boy, he learned of the sea from the decks of small boats. A Vietnam naval veteran, he crossed the Pacific several times in service of his country. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara he completed graduate work at Humboldt State University in the redwoods of northern California and earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in directing and dramatic criticism at Tulane University, New Orleans. He learned to love the area in which he was raised by leaving it to explore the South and Midwest, living in New Orleans and Indianapolis. After forty years of wandering he has found his way home, enjoying an active retirement with wife and cat in the seaside village of Los Osos, alongside California’s central coast. Pacific Sail is his first novel.
