Another dramatic week in Major League baseball with bag-of-baseballs full of incredible moments. There were several exciting walk-off victories, but none more unbelievable than what happened in the Mets’ home opener. Playing in front of their fans for the first time in more than a year the Mets sent their faithful home cheering and scratching their heads. With a tie score in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded Mets’ batter Michael Conforto stood at home plate with two strikes. He then leaned into a high hard one delivered by the Marlin pitcher which nicked his elbow as it sailed over the plate and into the catcher’s glove. The umpire was ready to call strike three but then indicated that Conforto was hit by the pitch. Conforto was awarded first base, thus forcing in the winning run. The Mets players came out of the dug out to mob their unlikely hero as they celebrated the bizarre walk-off hit-by-pitch! To add insult to injury the umpire later admitted he had made the wrong call but to no avail to Marlin fans. The play was unreviewable, and Mets’ fans had a most unlikely victory to celebrate the return of baseball to Queens.
