Sackcloth Sun and Ashen Moon 2/20/2024 6:54:09 AM
Is the eclipse of April 8, 2024 a ‘Sign of Jonah’? In Matthew 12, 38-42 Jesus speaks of the ‘Sign of Jonah’, who of course preached to Nineveh that repentance was necessary or wrath would occur in 40 days. There is evidence there was a coincident eclipse upon Jonah’s arrival at Nineveh that helped convince the populace of the need for repentance. On April 8, a total solar eclipse will occur. It will pass over 7 cities in the US that are named Nineveh. No where in the country are there any cities named Nineveh not in the path. In fact, there appears to be no other cities in the world named such, except for in the Solomon Islands (and in Nova Scotia, which is within the path of the eclipse). Interestingly, King Solomon is mentioned in the above named Matthew verse. It will be Nisan 1 in the Hebrew calendar, which is the beginning of the Passover month. It will be the day after Divine Mercy Sunday and the transferred feast of the Annunciation on the Catholic calendar. Forty days before April 8, is coincidentally Leap Day, and feast day of the patron saint of Gaza. 40 days after the eclipse is May 18 (vigil of Pentecost), but my feeling is 88 days, which is the day after US birthday. More may be to come, but for now, it is very convenient that now is the time of Lent. Sackcloth and ashes may be in order. Even if it’s just a piece of cloth with a black dot attached. Pray and fast (fast!)
Update: Yesterday’s mass reading (March 3, 2024) was the Samarian woman at the well. Samaria was once the northern kingdom of Israel. The Assyrians destroyed it by removing the Jewish elite and flooding the kingdom with people from all over, with their 5 different gods, as represented by the woman at the well’s five marriages. The eclipse crosses into the US at Eagle Pass, Texas. Connect the dots.
