Writing in swedish 5/8/2024 2:59:25 PM
I am sure I have told you before that writing in Swedish, which is my native language, my mother tounge, comes so hard to me. But now I am giving it a try.
Me and a friend has started a writers group on Facebook for people living in nearby towns where the commute is easy to our meetings. The idea of our group is that we write texts that we need help to develop and we share them with the people participating. Then we review and give tips on how to continue. We also help come up with ideas for how to break writer's block. One member has always wanted to write a book and had an idea what he wanted to write but just couldn't get it on paper. Now, a few meetings later, he has written several chapters on a very interesting book. I wanted to get started writing longer texts in Swedish, which I have succeeded with, thanks to this group.
Last meeting some of the demands and musts of the group were lifted. I feel we are helpful to each other and we are contributing even though we may not always be able to bring something to the table for every meeting. Writer's block is real and life gets in the way sometimes. The energy that this group of people brings to the table is enough to lift one up and inspire writing. I hope more of our members will participate in the meetings. It will be so interesting to see where this project will take us in the future.
My poetry has been pretty much on hold, with a few scattered works, some of them showing my brain fatigue off pretty good, or bad, depending on how you see it.
I have my health issues. After my neck operation I have been feeling more energetic from time to time, like I am supercharged. But that energy only lasts so long. I need to rest often. If I overdo it my thoughts get sluggish, I lose my language and can't find the correct words. Sometimes I sit down with an idea for a poem, but I struggle so hard to remember words that I end up closing down my computer and giving up. This hurts me a bit, because I truly enjoy writing poetry and I have things I want to get out there.
My executive functions can't really keep up with all of my newfound energy. My motor skills are sluggish and trying to run down the stairs like I used to before the accident in 2017 is dangerous. I sprained my ankle pretty bad a few weeks ago as a result of this. It's just pure luck that I was able to grab onto the railing of the stairs before I fell and hurt more than just my ankle. I have had a few close calls with similar situations since then as well, so now I am being very careful. Walking down stairs like an old lady, mindful of where I put my feet .
