Thanks for this article. I do write some historical fiction about women and found it thought-provoking. My novels have a "past" that is within the past 50 years of my life. Research is easier because I lived it. I also can compare the values that people lived with before that are not the same as the present. What a changing world! Atwood is right, every novel becomes historical fiction. A novel written just 10 years ago does not mention cell phones or social media. Now those writings seem so dated.
