Thanks, for posting your thoughts. I agree with Randall. Things seem to be changing, but maybe not quickly enough. It's kind of silly that writers like Sarah, who have an unusual book, should be forced to seek a publisher that is not interested in books outside of their specific categories. I hope things get better for you, Sarah, and that Randall and I are right about the major changes on the way in publishing and technology.

I'm a semi self published author, went with a POD publisher for my first novel. I find the stigma frustrating because there are many reasons to go the self publishing or POD route. My reason was simply that I had an unusual book that didn't fit any traditional genre so a POD seemed a better fit. From my experiences and the unfortunate stigma, I will probably try harder for a regular publisher with my next novel.

I feel the stigma for SP authors is definitely fading away. SP, in my view, is the future. Look at The Shack. It's a great example. It started out, I believe, as a SP vehicle, then caught afire & spread (and how!!!). Traditional pub houses are begging for readers, buyers & they're having to give away their books, practically. Walk in any bookstore of note & you see sale, discount, 50% off, bargain, give-away, etc. Who's going to pay a true retail price after seeing all those ads? Also, it'll be a more exciting future. Bad books, as always, will fade away forever & good ones will last. As always. |
