Me again. You asked if it made a difference. I guess the answer is that I am not sure. I truly believe that, now that my second book is coming out, I will make sales to people who got the first one free (unless they are expecting another freebie!) - because they liked the first book. It's hard to really quantify the effect. For me, it was worth it to get some more exposure, and I didn't give away all that many, maybe 15 total, including a few to reviewers.

Hi Melba! I am a children's author, self-published, and I gave a number of books away for free, including a couple to the local library. I think it is a great way to get a book out there in front of people. I also gave away free copies to my daughter's friends, expecting that they would help with some word-of-mouth marketing to other kids. Good luck with your book!
