Christine,
The movie and the character has a
special place in my heart.
Blessings to forgive ones self.
As you are a beacon in our lives.
As ever in friendship,
Lady Mary Ann
I loved that movie too, Christine! And I believe, like you, it's easier to forgive someone else...it's amazing how much we grow as the years go by....
Hugs,
Anna
I have to comment on this, my dear friend. To forgive yourself. After I finally stopped running to the mean streets of America because I didn't know anywhere else to run, I began to have people give me advice on how to live the rest of my life. I didn't mind. I was ready to listen . . . for a change. As the advice poured in the one common denominator was, "Forgive yourself, Jerry."
I thought that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. I had done so many, many things, had hurt so many, many people to look back on all that and forgive myself sounded very foolish, how in the world could I do that? So I chalked it up to just something people say, without meaning any of it. And maybe some of them were just talking to be talking.
Here is the kicker. Two years ago in October 2010 I was going about my usual thing, writing a novel and other things. From completely out of the blue came the thought, I am not the same person I was back then. So, if I am not the same person, maybe it is possible to forgive that other person, who was really me, but not really me. Complicated? I didn't think so. It took me about a month to put it all together. If I wasn't the same person then that I was now I would be able to forgive myself. And that is what I did, Christine. I forgave myself. I know that I did bad things, but the person I am now wouldn't have done those bad things. From the day that I was able to forgive myself was the day I became a happy person, and I am happy today, and I know that I will die happy. Just needed to explain how I went about forgiving myself, and therefore, if I can do it, anyone can do it.
