Unfortunately, by canceling your credit card with (now) good credit, the wonderful credit reporting agencies that secretly rule our lives (if we go by the premise that money is power and those who control the money are most powerful) will lower your credit score! Seems counterintuitive, I know, but you should have kept the credit card with a zero balance for a better credit score. My wife and I paid off our credit cards a couple years ago with a home refinance. We now do most of our purchasing with a credit card (usually Discover), get some kind of "cash-back bonus", then pay off the bills with our checking acct. More confusing, but our credit scores are over 800. Do some research on how to improve your credit score by playing their "game".

I just cancelled one credit card (paid it off, finally) cause who needs 2 different kinds of cards? One's enough for anybody. Yes, lay-a-way. Don't we remember? I like your ending. Nobody wants to do without anything, it seems!!
