This is a seriously good idea. As you acknowledge, not all elderly people could afford to buy an iPad, but government funding for equipment and training would be a great way of giving our older citizens further social contact, support and interests. This can only be beneficial for the mental and physical health of our elderly which would benefit not only them, but society as a whole. It would also be a practical demonstration of caring, kindness and respect from a civilised society for some of its most vulnerable members.
