ED - GOD BLESS YOU FOR THIS ONE!
Both the poems, and the history, bring back fond memories. As a kid, my Aunt Honey, SOLD those paper Poppies every year! She was the Matriarch of our Hyland family, and held various posts in both the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the VFW one.
When I was around 7 or so, while we visited my Uncle Ben's gravesite on that Memorial Day, a news reporter chatted with her, and we were written up in the newspaper. Somewhere, I still have the wrinkled old clipping. I had a glistening moment of fame!
The poppies also remind me of the old practice of wearing a CARNATION on Mother's Day - Pink, if alive, or White, if deceased? or vice versa?
And the word, BUDDY - reminds me of some old song lyrics my dad used to sing: "I only want a BUDDY, not a sweetheart, BUDDIES never make you cry..."
MAY THE BLOOD OF HEROES BE ALWAYS REMEMBERED!

The 26th of May we will be "celebrating" Memorial Day, it is a shame that politicians, that comfortable sit on their Hill leather couches don't give the human life of a soldier the worth it deserve.
I hope none of them wear that flower in their lapels, it will be hypocritical.
