This is a truly terrible story Karla. It is a great puzzle to many people outside the US that such a respected, democratic and wealthy country doesn't have healthcare for its citizens. Your care premium sounds very, very high. Here in Australia,we have a national system, but for there are various reasons for also having private insurance. For my wife and I, we pay $176 to cover all hospital care, limited glasses, dental etc with a $500 excess payment for hospitalization. We also pay $60 per doctor's visit with some 25$ rebate. Obviously there are limits, but it seems to cover almost everything. So apart from a national scheme - why on earth is your insurance so expensive?!!
