"thinking about the audience"

Interesting. I guess there are many reasons. People haven't time, can't be bothered. Just be pleased that someone might have read your story/poem.
I've been trying to figure out this question for months now! So have others I have talked to; the only conclusion we have come to is that the entire thing is a mystery. I have noticed that articles don't seem to get as much traffic as poetry does, unless you have been on AD for a long time and are known for your articles.

Whether a story is deemed good, bad or indifferent is to my mind purely the readers view, surely. What concerns me more is no matter how many hits one gets on 'free story reads', no matter how many 'free stories' one puts on AD, this does not increase by one jot the number of books purchased or in my case downloaded on kindle. Give it away free and folk will grab it, put a price on your work and just watch them run...
