Perhaps I need to first convince you that the Ryder Cup is one of the most contrived events that ever bored any normal human into a state of somnambulism. It takes the incredibly boring game of golf to a level that challenges rigor mortis to its core values of shun and distaste. It gathers together an assemblage of poor little rich boys, who know each other boringly well, and pretends to pit them against each other in a game of marbles played on a larger field. Ho hum. And then after counting “one up, one down” several dozens of times, amid a sporadic chorus of spectators chanting “USA, USA,” it proclaims one team the winner. Of what, I cannot say. One or more of them holds up a cup of some kind, fakes heart palpitations, and then they each waste otherwise good champagne by spraying each other with the contents of 20 or so bottles of said nectar on each other. And that is the sum and substance of the so-called international event that builds from nothing into a crescendo of solid nap time. But perhaps I exaggerate. Either way, it is a waste of television time better spent in letting viewers watch close up shots of grass growing.

Over the years I've been on and off golf watcher. Although my dad and my three brothers are all avid golfers. I really lost interest after Tiger declined, but I understand that he may be coming back from recent success.

I never paid much interest in the Ryder Cup. In fact, I thought it was the US against the world. I never much liked team competition because it always seems to be some kind of imitation war with all those fans and rallying around the flag.

Like you, I admire Usain Bolt. I understand that he grew up within walking distance of the national stadium. He said that as a child he wanted to run around the track but couldn't because the surface was too hot. That was his opportunity and he took it.

My Asian lady was bored with doing sewing at home in her new country so she decided to help on a guy in need of block away. She took an opportunity that has turned into a 25 year adventure for both of us.

The last pages of editing/proofing of my latest novel will be slowed greatly by watching two NASCAR races postponed in Charlotte until today because of the tremendous rainmaker, hurricane Matthew.
