Thank you for telling us about the trial of Duch. I hadn't heard of the trial and the cost, $150 million seems to be a problem with the justice system that is way out of whack.
I don't understand your distaste of the presidency of Barack Obama. The economy grew by 40% (while the average American lost assets). Recorded unemployment dropped from 10% to the current 3% although most of the replacement jobs are low-paying service jobs because of relentless outsourcing of manufacturing to countries like Cambodia. Obama kept us out of war although he had to continue the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq longer than we or he wanted. Aside from a brief time as a child in Indonesia, Barack was raised as Barry in Midwestern United States. He never knew his father and a half of him that is white is quite often ignored. His intelligence and willingness to compromise are his strongest points. People don't seem to like intelligent people who behave well.
During the summer of 1947, our family drove from Wisconsin to visit our rich old order Amish relatives with huge farms in northern Indiana. My father, a trucker, drove us through Chicago, down familiar streets to him, but foreign to me. After what seemed like miles of slums with many black people in the street in the heat of August, I asked my father why there were so many new Cadillacs lining the streets in such poor housing with no trees and no room to even breathe. Dad replied, “They can only rent. They can't spend their money on houses. If they have a good job they buy cars.
That is the legacy that we should be ashamed of. Not slavery. But the insidious discrimination that I have found just as prevalent in the north as in the south of our country… “the land of the free.”
