Dear girl, you should install a Firewall to stop all the unwanted mail, also activating the nay to pop-up system is not a bad idea.
Another thing you can do is to go to your Control-panel and click on Internet Options and Delete Temp Files & Cookies, if that takes long time...there is the reason of the slow machine, too many Temporary Files.
Hope you get going again at full speed!
