I have heard many of the same complaints and concerns you address here among my friends. With businesses from cosmetics to jewelry to us with books it would seem that as Facebook constricts our views on our posts that the only way to reach more and new viewers is to pay for it. Sadly, this is who Facebook has become and in the future I see many more doing as you are currently doing or leaving the social realm we know as Facebook. Hoping much success for you in the future. Would love to hear an update in a few months to see if your return has made it in the positive for you.
