Mr. West was right, human interruption when one is in a roll writing are like summer flyes in a pile of dung.
Sorry for the metaphore but there wasn't a more delicate way to tell them to scamper away!

What Felix says has some merit or is partly true, I know, but, in general, this cousin of former Pres. Nixon, Miss West, knew from experience. The real writer must be jealous, maybe not extremely, but jealous just the same of her or his time. Otherwise, an author would never get anything done!

I contemplated this statement for a while but I can't say I totally agree.For me the ideas and actual typing may be solitary but the creative process for me includes friends, family, people I meet etc who not only offer advice and encouragement butg also give me the support I need to do what I do.
