I love to correspond with letters. Seems no one wants to write them anymore. Especially depressing are people who forward emails they've received instead of typing a personal note! Amazing to me. Like Fee, I have some letters my father wrote to my mother during WW2. They are precious. Our history is written on the page, if we care to pass it down. Sadly, I asked my mother to write a journal of her life for her grandchildren and she declined. I bought 4 leatherette bound journals to scribe my life which I will give to my granddaughter at the end of my days. One day all of what we know will be a distant memory. How can we understand the present without knowing our past? Its the link to our past that gives us identity...

I agree. My first book Red Soil was base mostly on the pile of wartime letters my Dad wrote home to my mother. Letter writing in this cyber age is becoming a rarity that is so sad to see dissappear, I doubt it is even taught in the schools anymore.

Letters, those old brownish pieces of paper tied with a ribbon...and among them, a Dear John.
