I love synchronized swimming, though Anthony, a man I work with, is partial to beach volleyball and women's diving. He likes the swimsuits, he says. Yee hah, he says.
Did you know that a member of the USA synchronized swimming team can bench press each of her teammates? Way to go! They do all that without breathing - lifting up their teammates and hurling them into airborne dives. Poking their toes up in synchronistic patterns. And doing movements all that the same time. like flowers, if you look at them from overhead. The Russians rule at all this.
Synchronized swimmers make synchronized divers look like sissy amateurs. And they make mere diving look like a joke. Divers don't even hold their breath for long or bench press their teammates.
Anthony doesn't like women's discus throwing. The women look like bulldogs with muscles, he says. If they wore swimsuits, he wouldn't look. Neither would I.
He says javelin throwing is the same way, except for this hot chick named Leryn from Paraguay who sucked at javelin throwing, but Anthony didn't care, except that her sucking at javelin throwing got her thrown out. He misses Leryn.
He loves Michael Phelps, and was gratified to learn that he was last seen making out with that hot gold medal winning swimmer named Stephanie from Australia. "That's what I'd do too," Anthony said. "Either a swimming chick or one of the beach volleyball girls."
Neither one of us thinks those Chinese gymnasts are over 13.
All in all it was a good year. But it can't compare to the year Tonya Harding had her husband break Nancy Kerrigan's legs. That was the best year.
I love the Olympics.
Yes, the humour has survived. Alive and well.
