Hmmmm! Interesting, Ian.
I'd love to actually chat with you on this rather than tap away at 1% of the speed of thought (and .5% the speed of my motormouth!)
So just a quick thought: if Xtian creationism is to be discussed in science classes, then why not also discuss the rest of the collection of world myths - you know - giant tortoises supporting the world and so on along with the Xtian mythological view - ?? I'm noit being sarcastic - I would not stoop to that with a thinking person.
For me, the problem is that Xtians have tried to wrap myth inthe clothing of science - and the 2 are NOT compatible at any level beyond 'god made the big bang happen' - until science has discovered that too.
Have u ever heard the expression - 'god of the gaps'? - whatever we can't explain yet - is attributed to god. But the gaps keep getting smaller.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but all the scientist in question suggested was that we might attract more youngsters to science by at least taking the effort to discuss the viewpoints inculcated by their parents - and (my opinion) thereby give rational cause for doubt on with respect to their irrational cultist beliefs.
