It is worth remembering that the word 'hero' originally meant "consumed by fire" ... the more 'heroes' our wars create, the more burns our society suffers ... I wonder whether such 'tributes' as yours are not double edged. Provocative.

A very nice tribute to those who served. Sadly, I remember watching an LBJ re election campaign ad of TV in a day room at Ft Bragg back then. I'll never forget the end of the ad...."and you have my solemn word... that If you re elected me as your president, I will not send American boys nine or ten thousand miles away to die on Asian Battlefields" He made similar quotes...but after all of these years I still remember that particular one verbatim. |
