Is that so long ago? ten years? where the heck I was in the Spring of 1998?
At least you were marching forward, and yes, you are one of us, the ones that wish to write that American Novel, perhaps next year?

It is obvious that you truly love developing your Website; not only is the content superb, but the Website, itself, is a thing of beauty. Ha! My own entry into poetry was routed wierdly. I, too, wanted to write the great American novel, so I joined a local writers' workshop. Famous Writers School was sponsoring a contest, so I sent in a pretty dumb short story. No way it should have won anything, but it did. I won a full scholarship (free) to any FWS course of my choice. Being greedy, I chose their lengthy course in Advertising Writing because it covered almost all genres of writing, from news copy, to classified and display ads, to documentary manuals and films, and so much more. No, nothing was taught about writing poetry, but all through the lessons was this push to distill and dramatize your copy - condensing long dry narrative dopy into short power statements. I was thrilled with every bit of this. That was in 1965 and I remain thrilled today. I think I published my first poem before I hit chapter three in the course, and it has been non-stop since then on a long road where I edited a literary magazine, sold and developed display advertising for a newspaper, and have assisted with several literary Websites. As far as the great American novel? Maybe next lifetime; too busy right now having fun as a poet!

Great blog, Marcia Miller-Twiford! I have had a similar experience, but, between water-color and acrylics, just finishing my first acrylic picture, and feeling pretty good about it! I hope to continue on, as you have.
