Well, now, between your story and Linda's, you two have made a grown man cry. Now I see why you love Ken so much. Toward the end of your very touching blog, I found myself wondering if, in her own early life, your mom had been in the same straights, and I wondered if someone of empathy and compassion had come to her rescue, too. And, you can never repay such loving kindness -- you can only pass it on when the time is right. Needless to say, Marcia, I love this blog as much as you love the memory it celebrates.

Oh Marcia... this is so lovely. The beauty is it is the truth, and my heart just filled for you. I was there too...3 little ones under six, divorced, barely making it, and no money for gifts..but I did get each a couple of things too.. that is when I met my husband who came by just to "check on us"..as I had ignored his flirtations..He saw that I had 3 gifts in boxes (1 trike, 1 motorscooter, 1 dollhouse). I didn't have tools to put them together, so I wrote a note on each saying Santa's elves were sooo busy they'd have to come back after Christmas and put their gifts together!!! When my admirer saw this, he went to his car, brought in his tool box and assembled the kids gifts! We didn't have a tree...but we had a fancy "candleabra" thing with votives that my ex had given me...so we put tinsel on it and ornaments and wrapped a pillow case under it... When he saw the "tree"...(it was Christmas eve) he said...no...this won't do! and he was gone about 30 min's...honest... came back with a tree about 5 ft tall, with lites and ornaments... He brought it in, plugged it in, lites were on and it was so exciting when the kids woke up the next morning. My friend came back and took us to dinner at a nice place that was open... and we fell in love soon after... (He told me the tree was at one of those 7-11 convenience stores, and he gave the guy $20 for the whole thing!) We married a year later, and were together for 31 yrs til he passed away. He adopted my babies, and we had the most beautiful dad/husband...miracles do happen! I loved your story so much because it was so reminiscent of how difficult times can bring our best memories... lindalaw |
