I pass the the site of the historic "Golden Fleece" tavern and the Church where Rodney was a member on my leisurely late afternoon strolls around Dover's "Green". Dover is a little city rich with early American and colonial history. Yesterday my granddaughter and I stood on the Green in front of the old Courthouse where the Declaration of Independence was first read to a public gathering in America. The loyalties and alliances that were forged in those days and how far they went to show their faith in their new country never ceases to amaze me. These days most men wouldn't drive in their air conditioned high cars to even go and vote. |
