Well Fifi... I had to laugh at Mamma Mia... because I convinced my other half (men don't do musicals) to go with me on Sunday... half full theater with about 3 other men...all slouched deep into their seats...and mine was looking like I'd tricked him with a loaded gun... Oh well... I felt so bad that I promised ANYTHING HE WANTED later... with a big smile... and that didn't do a darn thing.... so, I sort of swerved my body in the seat so that my shoulder and arm still touched his, but my face and legs were facing the other direction...know what I mean? I have to tell you...I began by thinking..oh no...what a waste...but I wanted to go "to town" (don't laugh) and I like going on "dates" with my guy...so.. in the beginning I cringed with each song...thinking...how ridiculous..and how awful the singing...etc...then... somehow...I just let it pass me by on a serious level, and I began to just watch...and soon I was in love with Meryl Streep and her voice!!!! honest!!!! When the movie was over...I noticed the people continued to sit in their seats...not wanting to leave as the music kept playing... and I had to compose myself, and smile really big...as we walked out of the theater... THEN I found myself trying to "explain" to my date that it wasn't "that bad"... and he said...out of the blue..."When Meryl Streep sang that song..."I don't want to talk..The Winner takes all" I found myself near tears...I felt pain and sorrow and I thought it was lovely... EXACTLY MY OWN FEELINGS...so...guess we are just ole' softies...and we "Listen to the Music" like "Super Troupers" and everything mostly...except poor Pierce 007's voice was passable, I'm afraid that 007's I hope will be forgettable..:-) I guess in this time of dark movies...I enjoyed it...We had a great Italian dinner and came home...and thankfully...I didn't have to fulfill any wishes! lindalaw
