Perhaps the South has forgotten that many no white people fought for Dixie and felt for Dixie, not because they were pushed to, but because they considered the South as theirs as the white man. For that they should have being treated with respect from 1863 on.
Not been so, even in the North and that Christian Bible Belt the "N" word is spoken like a matter of fact in 2008.
"I love all the children of God, but only if they are white?"

I wrote a poem about that word years ago, Belle. Title: "A Horrible Word"

I've never posted it on Authorsden. Having been born in Mississippi, I can relate to what you've written. I've spent my adult life trying to convince family and others in the south that their views are antiquated and, more importantly, WRONG!

More later, Kiddo. But thanks for posting this. I've been working to get Obama elected. I've met some great people in that effort.

Unfortunately there are still many bigots out there but there are MORE who feel as we do.

Bravo, sister, bravo! Ignorance runs deep. The sadess part is not the word, but being treated as such, no matter who you are, just have dark skin and you're considered sub-human, genetically prone to be criminals and whores. Thank God I'm race-blind!!

racists and racism, stinks, racism is used, subtly or not, tactically, by people who want to maintain their power - i feel the link with Obama to 'terrorist' (group, no longer existing?, ex members or associates now tax paying teachers and professors etc!) was made last week with this in mind - incite the fear or insecurity that people often have for what it not just like them, is a tactic - stinks! You are right Belle, this election should not be about race, so much is really to do with ideas around class and the haves and havenots in all respects, but that is a discussion that can get too deep, enlightening, and much too sensible - good article, and *rolls eyes* i thought i wasn't going to comment on political things! Old ways sometimes do die, too! xxx

There's a lack, that's for sure. I couldn't wait to get out of Georgia, even though I was born and grew up in it. I love to go back to visit, but am sure I'd feel like a prisoner living there again. And I swear, I feel that I know a few right now who'd vote for a tree frog before they'd vote for the much maligned Obama. Great blog.
