The large corporation I work for kept our yearly bonus...... $50.00, stating they were unable to offer it as the economy was poor. But the exec's of the company still received their extremely large bonus!!! The reason given why the executives were granted theirs was....They worked so hard.
Before jumping on the witch-hunt bandwagagon, you should understand that the so-called bonuses are actually contractual retention payments, many of which go to staffers and contracted employees that havd nothing to do with the financial divisions meltdown.
The ammendment to the spending bill drafted by Chriss Dodd, allowed for these contractual bonuses to be paid. Pres. Obama, his economic advisor Larry Summers, Treasurey Sec. Tim Geitner, and all who signed the Bill (including Obama) knew about the bonuses well beforehand.
The bogus 'outrage' expressed by this administration is a politizied sideshow distraction which deflects the attention of a sheep-like constituancy from the bigger more serious issues at hand. Try an 11 Trillion dollar deficit that mortgages our grandchildrens future, cap an trade policies which result in skyrocketing energy prices, higher taxes which results in higher unemployment, and huge inflation across the board by floding the market with worthless currency.
Also not that should AIG employes sue to retain their pay, it will cost the taxpayers three times that 164 mil.
