Hi Randall...
Vince Gill is one of the most popular (steady) country singers who has done many "cross-over" recordings with pop stars such as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, as well as Allison Krauss and Reba and the list goes on! He is one of the most kind and decent men period! He writes much of his own music...he plays blue-grass and is very highly regarded for his talent in that area. Vince is one of the most philanthropic entertainers as well, and in Nashville in particular he has helped many to begin their own careers. Vince also is a talented golfer! Now.. let me say that this particular song you speak of...was written by Vince..and is about his brother who died, then his dad... His brother was diagnosed as mentally handicapped; however..Vince and his brother had a beautiful and close relationship. When his brother passed...Vince struggled with it so much that he wrote this peaceful and haunting song for him..and his father.. It does have a beautiful melody..and is easy to follow... The words are so applicable to anyone that we lose that was/is loved so much..
Now Randall, I didn't study this response, just that I have many of Vince's recordings in my collection of music (I listen to and love all types of music, including classical, opera, soul, gospel, oldies, rock, heavy metal, and so it goes...and of course, I love country)... I'm glad you like this song...and I hope you will look into more of his music... My very favorite is "If you ever leave me" with Streisand... thank you Randall...
