I agree Randall and am morally against the death penalty. However, in this country one can murder a dozen people, get life in prison and be out in 10-20 years. There lies the rub. The original life sentence can always be changed while the death penalty is pretty much permanent. Ex: my 14 yr-old daughter was killed by a drunk drive years ago and through my perseverance, was given the highest penalty at that time--2-6 years for vehicular homicde and was the first DWI to ever be sent to a state or federal prison. Sounds good? except that he didn't!Due to crowded conditions and a mix-up in paperwork, he spent 18 months in a half-way house, free on weekends. |
