Through a poem, posted here at AD, that I wrote in little Riley's memory (since I am in Galveston County and this senseless act hit me hard), I came into contact and befriended, Sheryl Sawyers, Riley's Grandmother. I am so, so pleased that there was full justice in this case, though I'm disgusted the death penalty wasn't on the table.

I shivered in anger, though, when his defense attorney during closing arguments tried to play him as a "good guy" who made a mistake. It doesn't matter. If you like alcohol and never have a problem, yet you get in a car, hit someone and kill them -- you must be punished. It doesn't matter how "good" you were before.

This guy could never get what he deserves, but at least he'll never see the light of day to hurt another child again.

I hope and pray that Sheryl and her family can finally begin to heal with this ordeal behind them.

The bottom of life's pit isn't good enough for these people. Texas has a penal system where people like this die at the hands of inmates who abhor child killers. It takes out the trash there in Texas.
