Goethe was a musician, and I suspect Emily Dickinson had some training since most women of her class did. Frost? Unknown. Shakespeare? Hard to say.

But yes, it's just a theory at this point, but my small sample size suggests it's accurate. I'm not sure what to think of people who are untrained in music but have a natural sense of it - there may be an escape clause.

I think it's interesting and that there's something in it. Lots of investigation needs to be done for I suspect great writers exist(ed) who don't know or didn't know a note from a noodle. Did Dickinson, Frost, Shakespeare or Goethe know about music?
