"Loneliness"

I believe human beings are “social animals”, dear Amber. It’s not in our genetic “structure” to be solitary, and even if some of us do live quite well by ourselves and truly enjoy our own company – and actually need to be alone, sometimes - there are moments when we intrinsically need group, communal interaction, or simply, the warmth of someone else’s company. Even those of us who reach that stage of emotional maturity in which we become aware that no one completes us but ourselves, know that the balancing presence, in our life, of other human beings, is essential for our physical, mental and emotional health. And so, yes, because we are and wish to remain wholly healthy human beings, we need friends, we need companions, we need mates… basically, we need to give and to receive love. (“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.” – Mother Theresa of Calcutta). But, in addition to this, and yes, because we are (in my humble belief) also “emotional animals”, we need to “fall in love”; we need… what Francesco Alberoni described as “the birthing state of a collective movement by two”, that “state” in which “the whole of our physical and sensorial life is expanded and intensified; we perceive smells that we hadn’t perceived before, colours and lights that we didn’t usually see. Our intellectual life is also amplified, for we recognize relationships that seemed inexistent or obscure, some time before.” And for this, dear friend, we are never too old – and it’s never too late!
Warm {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}} and lots of love,

Loneliness is a hollow chamber of echoes. But it is never empty. And we are never alone.
Blessings on you Amber.

sometimes-it is truly so difficult--such an open and self searching write-i am 51 and have been single for many years-
I am right with you but a different loneliness. Missing my Tom, it will be a year he died on Aug 17 and I am starting to feel it. Holidays are bad for me. I do try to take time to be busy and not dwell on it but it creeps up each day an I cry. I did just post a poem crying on my site today. I fight loneliness each day.
Oh! who could be thirty years younger and robe you from the crib.
Oh well, maybe one was born too soon.
Coming September 7th it will be a bang!
Georg
