There's a lot of wisdom here Amber. My mother survived the depression and from then on lived a very frugal lifestyle. It rubbed off onto me. I ask myself when tempted to purchase, "Do I need it or do I just want it?" and it works. I'm down to one credit card from ten. The one is for emergencies only. I fear worse times are ahead so everyone buckle down and buckle in. This too shall pass.

You have the right attitude towards depression. It can be overcome, and we should all try for a better tomorrow too. I know I am and it makes me feel better each day to look forward to a better future with those problems subsiding and all given freedom from fears and debts and all. Long may it be awaited and soon may it come.

I have practiced all my life about buying within the means I had at my disposition, although, you need today a Credit Card to buy a airfare ticket, hotel reservation and few other things.
Going whacko with a credit card is not advisable when the expenditure goes over the limit of you income. Then, you are in trouble.
Use 50% of the sum you wish to use, adn spare the other 50%, then you have a few items and the money to back it all.

The best thing I ever did was get rid of my credit cards way back in 1997. What a lesson I learned that my credit purchases evolved into triple or more the cost. It is an outrageous unending addictive circle; even though I had all good intentions to always pay off before interest hit...I totally agree with her Aunt. Be able to afford it. If one doesn’t have the money, save funds to afford it. Satisfaction comes from wise shopping I have found since my credit card days. I don't think I can stay away from actual banking however; I love the bank card & hate to travel with large sums of money. My grandmother used to bury her money in large gallon jugs throughout the yard/garden as she didn’t trust banks. I am feeling very positive for our country's future however, totally PMA!!! Gas prices were $1.65 per gallon at many gas stations yesterday & today too!!! My daughter seen pumps $1.45 over the past weekend!!! (even less with a car wash!!)
It's hard to get away from instant gratification that credit cards offer...(excluding people who own them for emergencies) but it is worth it!! All that interest is now my money to spend or save :)
